Why you need a drug testing policy and, if you don't have one, here is a sample of one...

Just got this comment from one of our clients:

Because all offers of employment are conditional based on the applicant's ability to pass a drug screen, it is always a source of amusement when applicants ask - and more than you would imagine do - to delay taking the screen because, as they freely admit, “I wouldn’t pass today.”

Simple Example of a Company Drug Policy
It is the Company's policy not to employ persons who use illegal drugs or abuse alcohol. Accordingly, the Company shall have the right to require an applicant for employment after an offer of employment or an employee to submit to testing for drug and/or alcohol use as a condition of employment or a continuing condition of employment as the Company deems necessary to the safe and efficient operation of the Company. An applicant who refuses will be denied employment and an employee who refuses to submit to drug and/or alcohol testing or who tests positive may be suspended from duty pending further investigation and may be subject to discipline, up to and including immediate discharge.

Before you implement any policy such as this, please consult your attorney.
